Harpers Ferry Model 1803
Harpers Ferry Model 1803
This is the first official United States rifle adopted by this country, and probably the most graceful and beautiful rifle ever produced by a government arsenal.

Built at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal from a prototype that Lewis and Clark wanted for this expedition through the west, this 1803 rifle has a 33" inch barrel with approximately 10 3/4" octagon with the balance of the barrel round.

The lock is marked Harpers Ferry 1803 with a US stamped underneath an eagle. Walnut stock is shaped and inletted for barrel lock, trigger, patchbox and buttplate. This short barreled accurate rifle with tapered barrel was an advanced design well ahead of its time for a military rile.
